Current Research
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s ITS research focuses on several high-priority areas including Emerging and Enabling Technologies, Data Access and Exchanges, ITS Cybersecurity Research, Automation, ITS4US, and Accelerating ITS Deployment. The ITS Strategic Plan includes in-depth discussion of the ITS Program’s strategic goals, these research areas, and four technology transfer programs.

Informational Webinar on Saving Lives with Connectivity: Accelerating V2X Deployment Program Grant Opportunity
On Wednesday, November 15, 2023, the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) will host an informational webinar on the Saving Lives with Connectivity: Accelerating Vehicle-to- Everything (V2X) Deployment Program Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm ET.
Overview: This webinar will provide information and accept questions regarding the Saving Lives with Connectivity: Accelerating V2X Deployment NOFO issued on October 26, 2023, with applications due January 17, 2024. The NOFO provides up to $40 million in Federal funding for eligible entities to deploy, operate, document, and showcase integrated, advanced roadway deployments featuring applications enabled by interoperable wireless connectivity (among vehicles, mobile devices, and smart infrastructure). The U.S. DOT intends for these technology deployments to help demonstrate how emerging connected vehicle technologies, data, and their applications can be effectively deployed to improve system safety, enhance traveler mobility, improve the efficiency of goods movement, mitigate environmental impacts, and address disparities in transportation equity.
Agenda: John Harding (Federal Highway Administration [FHWA]) and Kate Hartman (Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office) will describe the program and its intention. They will also share U.S. DOT’s vision, interests, and goals as they relate to the Accelerating V2X Deployment Program. Rob Miller, Agreement/Contracting Officer, FHWA, will provide detailed information about the award as well as explain the application process for the grant.
Target Audience: All eligible NOFO applicants, i.e., non-Federal domestic public sector organizations, domestic academic institutions, and private sector/other entities incorporated in the United States.
Learning Objectives: Attendees are expected to learn about the background information for the Saving Lives with Connectivity: Accelerating V2X Deployment Program. They will also learn about the eligibility requirements and how to apply for the grant.
