Current Research
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s ITS research focuses on several high-priority areas including Emerging and Enabling Technologies, Data Access and Exchanges, ITS Cybersecurity Research, Automation, ITS4US, and Accelerating ITS Deployment. The ITS Strategic Plan includes in-depth discussion of the ITS Program’s strategic goals, these research areas, and four technology transfer programs.

Missed the South by Southwest Interactive Conference? The U.S. Department of Transportation's Session Recordings Are Now Available for Viewing
The U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) hosted six interactive sessions and a demonstration room highlighting four research areas during the South by Southwest Interactive (SXSW) Conference in Austin, Texas. Video recordings of each session are now available for viewing at the U.S. DOT's SXSW web site.
The U.S. DOT and thought leaders from industry, academia, and state and local organizations discussed topics including cybersecurity, mobility in rural and urban settings, freight, accessibility, and trends in transportation innovation. Participants learned about how the U.S. DOT supports innovation, discussed key technologies that will shape transportation in the next 10 to 20 years, and participated in thought-provoking conversations.
The annual SXSW Conference attracts thousands of forward-thinking professionals across industries who are pushing the limits of innovation to spur real change in our lives and communities.
