The Deadline for the Transportation Technology Tournament Has Been Extended to February 8, 2019

The National Operations Center of Excellence and the U.S. Department of Transportation Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Professional Capacity Building program have extended the deadline of the 2019 Transportation Technology Tournament. The competition is an opportunity for students to work directly with state and local departments of transportation to solve real-world transportation problems using ITS and transportation systems management and operations (TSMO) solutions. The deadline for the competition is now on February 8, 2019.

Student teams have two choices in identifying a challenge problem. They may work with a state, regional, or local agency to identify a transportation problem requiring an ITS or TSMO solution, or they can select a problem from a list provided for this tournament by specific agencies. After submitting an initial contest application that identifies the team and the problem being addressed, students will work with academic advisors to learn about potential ITS and TSMO solutions via online training programs. Teams will then use their experience, education, and new coursework to develop a solution or suite of solutions to directly address the originally defined problem.

Finalist teams will present their proposals in a live event at the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) 2019 conference in Austin, TX. A panel of judges made up of leaders in the ITS and TSMO community will select the winner.

Team applications to join the tournament must be submitted via the online form no later than Friday, February 8 at 11:59 pm ET.
