U.S. Department of Transportation Updates the Architecture Reference for Cooperative and Intelligent Transportation (ARC-IT) Software Tools

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has updated the tools accompanying its Architecture Reference for Cooperative and Intelligent Transportation (ARC-IT) software: the Regional Architecture Development for Intelligent Transportation (RAD-IT) and the Systems Engineering Tool for Intelligent Transportation (SET-IT). The architecture tool set has been upgraded with new features and performance improvements to work with version 8.2 of ARC-IT.

ARC-IT provides a common framework for planning, defining, and integrating intelligent transportation systems. RAD-IT supports development of regional and project ITS architectures using ARC-IT as a starting point. SET-IT integrates drawing and database tools with ARC-IT so that users can develop detailed ITS project architectures. ARC-IT and the accompanying tool sets help implementers develop regional architectures to effectively meet their needs and facilitate efficient, secure, and interoperable ITS deployments.

The upgraded architecture tool set includes numerous performance improvements. SET-IT's most complex tasks, including context diagram generation, have been notably improved by making the diagrams more intuitive (requiring less manual editing later) and the user interface made more flexible. RAD-IT 8.2 includes updates to the Interfaces tab to account for stakeholder bound interfaces in a way that makes the "Build" process result in a simpler architecture and changes to the Inventory tab to support stakeholder assignments using all roles from ARC-IT's enterprise view.

The ARC-IT version 8.2 upgrade includes numerous modest changes to architecture content that reflect user input and technology evolution.

ARC-IT and its accompanying software tools are available at no cost from www.arc-it.net.
