Mission and Vision
Roadway safety is the top priority for the United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT). The U.S. DOT is committed to actively pursuing a comprehensive approach to significantly reduce deaths and serious injuries on our Nation's highways, roads, and streets. The ITS Joint Program Office strongly believes that wireless connectivity among vehicles, roadside infrastructure, and mobile devices through vehicle–to-everything (V2X) communications is a fundamental element in achieving Vision Zero. Crucial to the future of V2X is the notion of interoperability – wherein a diverse range of in-vehicle, roadside, and mobile devices can communicate to operate reliably and effectively across all of the nation's surface transportation system.
VISION
Enable a safe and efficient transportation system through the national, widespread deployment of secure, interoperable V2X technologies.
MISSION
Accelerate deployment of secure, interoperable V2X connectivity using the dedicated 5.895–5.925 GHz spectrum and other available spectrum through collaboration and coordination across the federal government, the public sector, and private industry.
The V2X Accelerator Program provides access to various USDOT-sponsored activities and resources to support agencies on their journey to deploy V2X technology.
