The U.S. Department of Transportationís ITS research focuses on several high-priority areas including Emerging and Enabling Technologies, Data Access and Exchanges, ITS Cybersecurity Research, Automation, ITS4US, and Accelerating ITS Deployment. The ITS Strategic Plan includes in-depth discussion of the ITS Programís strategic goals, these research areas, and four technology transfer programs.

SMART Grant Notice of Funding Opportunity Open Through October 10, 2023
The U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) has opened the second year of the Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grants Program, a discretionary grant program established under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. SMART provides grants to State, local, and Tribal governments to conduct demonstration projects focused on advanced technologies that improve transportation efficiency and safety. The SMART Grants Program will accept Stage 1: Planning and Prototyping applications through 5 pm ET on October 10, 2023 via the Valid Eval website.
The U.S. DOT will host a “How to Apply for an FY23 SMART Grant” webinar on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 2 pm ET. During the webinar, U.S. DOT staff will provide an overview of the SMART Grants Program, information about the application process, and themes from successful applications received during the first year of the program.
