Security Credential Management System (SCMS) Proof–of–Concept Implementation End-Entity (EE) Requirements and Specifications Supporting SCMS Software Release 1.2.1
Background
The initial Secure Credential Management System (SCMS) Proof-of-Concept (POC) was developed jointly through US DOT and the Crash Avoidance Metrics Partnership (CAMP). The SCMS POC was formally closed in October 2018, however the key concepts, systems architectures and interfaces developed during the POC development are still utilized by SCMS providers today. This interface is commonly referred to as the CAMP Interface.
The information contained with the Security Credential Management System (SCMS) Proof–of–Concept Implementation End-Entity (EE) Requirements and Specifications Supporting SCMS Software Release 1.2.1 website will primarily be useful for developers of end-entity (EE) devices. An EE device is an Onboard Unit (OBU), a Roadside Unit (RSU) or any other device that will connect to the SCMS to request certificates for signing Connected Vehicle (CV) messages. This website was primarily developed to provide software and hardware developers of these devices with the information that they need to securely interface with the SCMS and is therefore very technical in nature.
Additionally, new SCMS interfaces have been developed within the IEEE 1609.2 Working Group. They can be found within IEEE 1609.2.1-2020 - IEEE Standard for Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE)--Certificate Management Interfaces for End Entities https://standards.ieee.org/standard/1609_2_1-2020.html
Finally, although much of this information is still relevant and valid, it is recommended that any developer or agency procuring SCMS services check with their SCMS provider for any updates or changes to these interfaces.
Where to Begin
The bottom of this webpage contains all of the links to the other major pages on this website. The most useful place to begin though is at the CV Pilots Documentation page. This page will provide you with an overview of the website and provide some valuable information for EE device developers. The SCMS Requirements by Use Case page provides links to many of the relevant SCMS Use Cases. The Registration Authority (RA) Services View provides the links to the many RA services, such as requesting certificates, downloading certificates and other files important to SCMS operations.
